Artist's Description

This work was completed from a black and white photo taken at Saufley Field in Pensacola, Fla. The photo was taken sometime in 1945 or 1946. My dad is the young man standing to the left of the bucket. He told me many stories during my life. One in particular rings in from this photo. During his first year as a recruit his group was ordered to pick up buckets like the one pictured spred out in front of a hanger. My dad went to the end of the buckets and began picking them up coming toward the hanger. It was then he was told he would go a long way in the Navy. He did....April 1st, 1970 was the end of a career spanning thirty years.

About Gene Ritchhart

Gene Ritchhart

My name is Gene Ritchhart. I was born and raised in San Diego, Ca. My father was a career Navy man, thus my early years growing up were spent primarily in San Diego. After I graduated from El Cajon High School I joined the Army. While in the army I was the driver of an M113a1 Armored Personnel Carrier. While stationed in Mainz, Germany I found that I could make a little money selling my art work. After the army I used the GI Bill to go to college and attained an A.A.degree in Art. I currently live in the state of Washington where I am continuously inspired by this states beauty. Thanks for viewing my work.
