GREAT painting! As you intended, Little Joe Big Joe shows Duty, Honor, Country and also honors those that have lived and died by this credo. It "touches" emotions. You have a great collection of photos and paintings.

Artist's Description

Well I had planned on having this piece up by Memorial Day but I just kept thinking of something that might make an impact. My intent was to pay tribute to those that have sacrificed their lives in combat and those that left a piece of themselves in the battlefield. In my painting Little Joe is meeting his name sake, Big Joe.It Had started as a soldier in uniform standing with his son ( Lttle Joe ) looking at the grave of a fallen comrade ( Big Joe). It just didn't make an impact on me. So the final metamorphisis was to drop the uniform completely and show a prosthetic leg and silk jacket showing his tour of duty. My dad was a 30 year Navy man. A part of what we learned as kids was Duty, Honor,Country. Hopefully this painting honors those that have lived and died by this credo.

About Gene Ritchhart

Gene Ritchhart

My name is Gene Ritchhart. I was born and raised in San Diego, Ca. My father was a career Navy man, thus my early years growing up were spent primarily in San Diego. After I graduated from El Cajon High School I joined the Army. While in the army I was the driver of an M113a1 Armored Personnel Carrier. While stationed in Mainz, Germany I found that I could make a little money selling my art work. After the army I used the GI Bill to go to college and attained an A.A.degree in Art. I currently live in the state of Washington where I am continuously inspired by this states beauty. Thanks for viewing my work.
